As a society we are learning how to moderate our discourse about race and also body image in the hetero realm. I think we can do this too; we need to learn to call them out when we hear them. I know such offensive expressions can also come from a place of pain, so calling them out should be done kindly, yet firmly. The response is often, 'but instead of taking offense, they should learn to love themselves."
