Ares embodies the following characteristics:
- He is the god of war and dancing
- He has immediate access to embodied emotions like anger, rage, jealousy, competition, etc.
- He is one of a few classic American male archetypes: jocks, military, prison guards, etc. He is intimidating, but not necessarily intelligent
Ares creates a facade of hyper masculinity in order to protect himself from the intense vulnerabilities that he feels. The disowned tenderness and compassion that is his inner child must be contacted and freed in order for him to be whole. In myth, Ares was locked as a child in a bronze jar and almost died. Hermes rescues him at the last moment.
